Housing and apartment development in Kilrush Town, County Clare.
The site was used for many years as a timber yard by the Client who was in the hardware business and is located at the corner of Toler Street and John Street in the centre of Kilrush, County Clare. The brief was to provide a mix of residential units from 2-storey dwellings to apartments. The solution was to provide a 4 no. terraced houses on Toler Street each with private back garden while to the rear of the houses a courtyard provides 10 no. apartments with a private car park and open space for the apartments which face the smaller John Street. The apartments facing John Street have contributed to the improvement of John Street which connects with the main square of the town. Car parking is provided in the rear courtyard as well as on the public street.
The traditional form and elevation treatment reinforces the existing streetscape of Toler Street and reclaims the site for residential use in keeping with the existing houses on the street. The form and master plan for the site was developed in consultation with Clare County Council.
